Here’s the story of why I started making my own apple cider vinegar salad dressing at home. If you simply want the recipe, just scroll on down.
Why I Make it at Home?
For those that know me in real life, I’ve altered my diet quite a bit over the last couple of years. I now eat a very low sugar, mostly low carb ;), low processed food, high vegetables, etc., diet. I’ve been battling yeast for years and this diet has been helpful for me with the yeast, but also with my general overall health.
One way to cut down on sugar and bad-for-me oils is to make my own salad dressing. Did you know that most salad dressings have sugar in them AND weirdo oils like soybean and canola?
Also, one way I’ve been fighting yeast is by adding more apple cider vinegar into my diet. I take shots of it (diluted with water), but thank goodness for this apple cider vinegar salad dressing recipe. It’s much more palatable on my salad than in a shot glass!
However, I’m not going to lie. The biggest draw to this apple cider vinegar salad dressing is the taste. It’s so incredibly good and my kids will literally drink it out of a cup. Maybe my kids are weirdos?
Apple Cider Vinegar Salad Dressing Ingredients
This recipe was inspired by The Nourishing Gourmet. From my family to yours, thank you!
Olive Oil
The first part of the base of this dressing is olive oil. Of course, I recommend an organic extra virgin olive oil. I use Costco’s EVOO but I know there are better quality oils out there.
Apple Cider Vinegar
The second part of the base of this salad dressing is… APPLE CIDER VINEGAR! Shocking, I know! I recommend a RAW, unfiltered apple cider vinegar that says “with the mother”. Bragg is a good brand.
Onion Powder, Mustard, Salt and Pepper
These ingredients will likely be on hand so nothing special here. However, I do recommend using pink himalayan salt. I got mine at Costco but Amazon sells it too. (And yes, I’m using plain old regular mustard.)
Raw Garlic
Raw garlic is so good for you! And it can sometimes even help clear up GBS+ in pregnant women. However, it’s pretty strong by itself. But in this apple cider vinegar salad dressing recipe it is well balanced and amazing.
Fresh Basil
You may be tempted to substitute dried basil or even another herb here, but I’m going to strongly encourage you to follow the recipe with this one. Fresh basil is so good and in this dressing it is delicious. And hey, it even turns the salad dressing green. Can’t beat that with the kids!
Directions
To get started, put all ingredients in a blender. This recipe is pretty forgiving, so don’t obsess about getting it “just right.”
Blend well. (I have a Vitamix and I love it. You should get one too.)
Pour dressing into glass storage containers. I use mason jars with plastic lids.
