Hope for the Weary Mom
Here are some resources, ideas and a little bit of encouragement and hope for the weary mom that were helpful to me during my postpartum adjustment. ♥
I love being a mom, but wow, it is a trying job.
Baby wants to be held, older child wants food, laundry is piling up and the clutter is mocking me! I can easily get overwhelmed, feel fatigued and not know what to do next.
Sometimes when I’m in a funk I find myself spacing out.
For example, my three year old will be talking to me, I’m staring at him not responding but instead I’m thinking about my to do list, or contemplating life… or something. All he sees is a blank stare, and no verbal response.
Thank goodness children are so forgiving! He’ll just repeat himself, “MOM!”
I know I’m not alone, and I know we all need encouragement. I wrote this post for both of us so that we will have ideas of how to wake up and get out of our funk!
Yes, motherhood is hard and not really what I expected, but that doesn’t mean that we should be unhappy and discontented throughout the experience.
Here are some things I have found helpful to really feel connected and get out of that funk!
take a hot shower
get outside
chang out of pjs and into something that sparks joy
put shoes on
listen to music loudly and sing along
turn off the computer/phone
take your vitamins
stop and be thankful
drink a glass of cold water
take a nap
go to bed early or on time
eat a healthy snack
read a quick snippet from your bible/book you’re reading
do an exercise video with the kids
encourage someone
hug and kiss… and linger
be silly and find something to laugh about
dance!
So, there are my ideas. I figure if we do a few of these every day life will be more fun and rich.

I adore your blog & this post. We live in the middle of nowhere and have no means of leaving our property when my husband goes to work everyday - so 24 hours a day on average 6 days a week straight on the same plot of land in our tiny little house can get a little claustrophobic for me and our 3 year old rock star daughter. We do try, weather willing, to get outside for at least 2 hours a day, sunshine helps with the momma blues for sure. Im 19 weeks now with our second (a boy yay!) so I will be honest and say not everyday I get out of yoga pants but I will try the other tips you've listed for sure! Thank you!!!

Great ideas! Getting out of my pjs is a huge one for me. It's just recently sinking in that this is a problem. I do feel much more like a real person when I have actual clothes on. Getting some fresh air always helps too, even if it's too cold to go outside.
